meet the founder

i'm hope, a fashion designer based in los angeles, and the founder of other matters atelier.

i spent more than a decade in fashion design; building collections, learning how things are made, understanding the difference between something constructed with intention and something constructed to a price point. at some point that knowledge made it impossible to shop the way i used to.

so i went looking for the pieces that were made when the standard was higher. that led me to paris. to the flea markets, the private archives, the stylist collections, where i source each piece by hand. i look for garments that were built to last and have. chosen for their construction, their character, and their ability to live many more lives.

other matters atelier was built on a simple belief: that how something is made matters just as much as how it looks.

xo, hope

the practices that shape our work

sourced by hand

every piece at other matters atelier is found in person, in paris. flea markets, private archives, personal collections. nothing is sourced remotely or bought in bulk. the edit is small because the criteria are specific: construction, provenance, condition, and character. if it doesn't meet all four it doesn't come home.

handled with care

a decade in technical design means i know what i'm looking at when i pick something up. the label is the last thing i authenticate. i look at the lining, the stitching, the weight of the fabric, the way the seams sit. every piece is assessed, documented honestly, and listed with full condition notes because you deserve to know exactly what you're buying.

made to last

these pieces already have. the oldest things in the archive are thirty, forty years old and still in excellent condition. that's not luck, it's what happens when something is made properly. other matters exists because those pieces are still out there, and finding them is worth the trip.
